I guess I should probably explain why I even have this blog in the first place. Aside from the obvious - I’m jumping on the blogging bandwagon - there’s actually a somewhat valid reason. Or two.
I’ve always been useless at keeping a paper diary, yet I’ve always loved writing and speaking my mind. And no-one can argue that it’s much more fun when people can write back. A blog is just a nice way of expressing my day, and keeping in touch with people who would otherwise be lost. It’s fun, it’s refreshing, and it keeps me out of trouble.
In eight days time I’m heading back to Brighton. I won’t have internet for a while, but as I and my housemate are internet junkies I’m sure it won’t stay that way for too long. I thought this website would be a good way to not only document my final year at University, but also to improve my writing. Who knows, it might even help me pass my degree?
I intend to be alot more focused this year, I’ve managed to pass happily in my first two years - but if I want a half-way decent degree I’m going to have to work hard. The problem is, I’ve never really ‘worked hard’; I’ve somehow managed to get by in school and sixth form and university with only a mediocre effort. It’s not that I don’t try to be focused, I just never seem to be able to stay that way for long. This time however, it really means something. This is the result employers will see when I apply for a job, this is the result people pay attention too - no one really notices your GCSE’s or A Levels once you have a degree. This time I have a reason to work hard. Let’s hope I can transform myself into a bookworm and English geek for just one more year…
